My friends often ask me „What can a 3D printer do for me? “ The answer is really simple: Anything!

When I got to 3D printing, the main attraction for me was that what I was able to come up with for smart-home devices, I was able to implement on the printer. I admit this has been a bit of advanced use and many of you are not designing your own device. However, I quickly discovered that this is just the tip of the iceberg. Home decorations such as flower pots, vases and statuettes quickly became a matter of course, and gifts for friends and relatives quickly exchanged for original printed pieces that could not be purchased elsewhere. But we are still at the beginning. As a maker, I often need various preparations, aids, boxes and tools. And this is where the 3D printer really excels. From the 3D designs available online for free, you can choose practically any tool you need.

If I really wanted to cover all areas where 3D printing can be useful, I would need a lot more space, but whether it's children-toys or teachers-teaching aids or students-projects, the phrases seem to be tailor-made to the printers. And there are many, many more.

But there is also one, perhaps sometimes overlooked aspect, perhaps most important to me personally:
Permanently sustainable future.
Try to imagine it with me – we have printing material, full-value plastic, made from renewable resources (most often corn starch), which is also degradable using bacterias. You can print a plastic object, a flowerpot, a toy, or a decoration of such material at home without the need for the entire production process, transport, and logistics with a minimum carbon footprint for production.
If such an item is damaged or devalued, you will not throw it away, but they will produce printing material again at the nearest recycling center. The whole cycle can be repeated without your old flowerpot ending up in the incinerator and the air or the sea.
Too nice and unreal? Not at all!

For many, 3D printing is a technological fad, for me it is a future that is already here and can change our consumer behavior and reduce the contamination of our earth with plastics.
